Ever wonder how wealthy the 2016 GOP presidential candidates are? FoxBusiness.com ranks all 16 by their net worths.
Donald Trump- $4 Billion
No surprise here. Trump is a bona fide real estate tycoon with high value properties across the country. The Donald’s wealth can also be traced to his reality show, The Apprentice, which NBC recently dropped following his controversial comments on Mexican immigrants. As with all things Trump, there is some controversy surrounding his earnings. His campaign values him at $10 billion, but Forbes lists him at a more modest $4 billion. (Reuters)
Carly Fiorina- $59 Million
Fiorina’s high rank on the list may come as a surprise to those who are not familiar with the former HP CEO. The presidential hopeful served as Hewlett-Packard’s Chairman and top executive for six years between 1999 and 2005. As part of her campaign’s extensive financial disclosures, she also listed large investments in tech companies such as Apple and Microsoft. (Reuters)
Jeb Bush- $19-$22 Million
Bush’s net worth has exploded since he left the Florida governor’s office in 2007. The New York Times reports the candidate earned $28.5 million between 2007 and 2013, with nearly $10 million coming from speaking engagements alone. (Reuters)
Ben Carson- $9-$27 Million
Dr. Carson made a great deal of money during his highly successful career as a neurosurgeon. In the years since his retirement from medicine, he has made millions from speaking engagements, serving on the boards of Kellogg Co. and Costco Wholesale Corp. and authoring the New York Times best selling book One Nation. The figure shown represents his earnings during a 16 month period ending in May 2015. His total net worth is not available. (Reuters)
Ted Cruz- $3.1 Million
The Republican Senator from Texas was worth $3.1 Million in 2013, the most recent year available, according to The Center for Responsive Politics. Sources of revenue include his recent book, A Time for Truth, which is currently listed as number 13 on the New York Times Nonfiction Bestseller list. Much of his estate’s worth can be attributed to his wife, Heidi Cruz, who serves as a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs and is currently on leave for the campaign. (Reuters)
Bobby Jindal- $2.7 Million
The life long politician and Louisiana Governor has done a good job keeping his net worth under wraps. The number shown is based on a report by The Center for Responsive Politics in 2007, the most recent year available. (Reuters)
Chris Christie- $1.6 Million
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is much better off than he would have you believe according to financial disclosure statements filed in May. Christie’s wife, Mary Pat Christie, is the true breadwinner in the family. Tax returns show she earned over $475,000 in 2013 from her former position as Managing Director at Angelo, Gordon & Co. (Reuters)
Rick Santorum- $1.4 Million
The Republican Senator from Pennsylvania reported $1.4 million in net worth during his 2012 campaign for President. (Reuters)
Rand Paul- $1.3 Million
The Senator from Kentucky brings in $174,000 each year as salary, in addition to book royalties and revenue from his rental properties. (Reuters)
Rick Perry- $1.3 Million
The former Governor of Texas reported net worth of just over a million when he ran for president in 2012. (Reuters)
Lindsey Graham- $1 Million
The South Carolina senator is consistently listed as one of the least wealthy members of the senate, ranking 68th of 100 in 2013. USA Today notes that his current worth is likely to be lower than the 2013 mark, after removing his home on Capitol Hill as a source of income. (Reuters)
Mike Huckabee- $700,000
The relatively modest number was reported during Huckabee’s 2008 Presidential campaign. His worth has no doubt increased since those days due to time spent as host of FNC’s Huckabee, a role he stepped down from early this year. (Reuters)
Marco Rubio- $443,509
The Florida senator is estimated to be worth just under half a million dollars according to the Center for Responsive Politics and filings from 2013. His worth includes $52,000 he earned from book sales in 2014 and a Florida International University teaching position. (REUTERS)
Scott Walker- (-$72,000)
Walker is by far the least wealthy candidate for president, according to a report from the Boston Globe. His debt can be attributed to a car loan of $5,000-$50,000 and a Sears MasterCard debt worth up to $100,000. (Reuters)
John Kasich- N/A
The latest addition to the GOP race has yet to disclose his finances with the FEC and he has generally kept his earnings close to the chest. Tax returns from 2008 show he made $1.1 million that year, more than half of which came from his position with former investment bank, Lehman Brothers. (Reuters)
George Pataki- N/A
There are no public financial disclosure forms available for former New York Gov. George Pataki, which makes it impossible to pin down his total worth. He does earn more than $100,000 a year from his state pension. (Reuters)
