Virtual reality technology is taking center stage at the annual Tokyo Game Show, which gave reporters a preview Thursday at Makuhari Messe hall in the Tokyo suburb of Chiba, ahead of the exhibition's opening to the public this weekend.

The show is one of the world's biggest devoted to video games, with 614 companies participating, demonstrating more than 1,500 game software titles.
The arrival of VR is apparent everywhere as players at the booths are wearing VR headgear, which delivers an immersive, 3-D 360-degree experience.
VR has many potential uses, including job training, but it's expected to take off in games as early as this year.
Sony Corp.'s VR goes on sale next month. Sony Interactive Entertainment Director Yasuo Takahashi says VR will help revive the game industry.
