Volkswagen CEO Calls Germany's Diesel Subsidies Into Question -Handelsblatt

Volkswagen AG (VOW.XE) Chief Executive Matthias Mueller said that the purpose of Germany's diesel subsidies should be called into question, newspaper Handelsblatt reported Sunday.

--The German government shouldn't keep subsidizing diesel-engine vehicles forever if the goal is to make a successful transition to electric-powered vehicles, Mr. Mueller told Handelsblatt in an interview.

--In Germany, customers pay lower taxes on diesel fuel than on conventional gasoline. The balance could be used more sensibly for the advancement of environmentally-friendly trains, Mr. Mueller told Handelsblatt.
