Tweet Business of the Day: Allergy Menu Specialists
Who: CMO Rodney Fife, 32, @AllergySpecial
What: Rodney and his wife, Chaton, publish a monthly magazine, "The Gluten Free Consumer," which highlights findings from their company, the Allergy Menu Specialists, where they test and review gluten-free products.
When: June 2011
Why: Chaton was diagnosed with Celiac disease six years ago, which required her to be on a gluten-free diet, Rodney said. These products are more expensive than normal food, and she wasn't keen on buying a product without knowing if she would like it, he said.
"We decided to see if there was a way to review products like this," Rodney said. "We created this magazine and made partnerships with manufacturers."
The magazine has grown since its first distribution in local supermarkets. According to Rodney, next month's issue will reach a readership of 25,000.
Where: The company is based in Salt Lake City, Ut.
In his own words: "We have learned that by creating a solution to a need, you help others involved," Rodney said. "We started with less than $300, and currently have a profit."
