T-Mobile's Humm Named Regional CEO of Vodafone
A day after announcing his departure from the No. 4 U.S. carrier, T-Mobile, Philipp Humm has bee named regional CEO of Vodafone (NYSE:VOD), overseeing the central and northern areas of Europe.
Vodafone also said on Thursday that Paolo Bertoluzzo, currently its head of Italian operations, would serve as chief executive of Southern Europe.
Humm’s role will be effective Oct. 1. He comes from T-Mobile USA, where he had been serving as CEO since 2010. Prior to that, he was chief regional office of Europe of T-Mobile International and CEO and chief sales officer for T-Mobile Germany.
"Vodafone is a powerful brand with a strong focus on the customer coupled with a clear strategy for growth. I look forward to joining the team," Humm said in a statement.
His region includes Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands, Turkey, Ireland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Romania.
Bertoluzzo’s new role will be effective Aug. 1. He will also continue in his role as CEO of Vodafone Italy, a position he’s held since 2008. He first joined Vodafone in 1999.
Both regional chiefs will join the Vodafone executive committee once their appointments take effect.
Vodafone announced an overhaul earlier this year in an effort to give a jolt to growth amid several quarters of lackluster sales. A part of that effort has been reducing redundancies, cutting jobs and combing business units.
"Our new regional structure will underpin our strategy focused on meeting our customers' long-term needs, and Paolo and Philipp will be strong additions to the Vodafone Group Executive Committee,” Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao said.
