Small Business of the Day: Great Play Gyms
Who: Keith Camhi, 45, @greatplaygyms
What: Gym aimed at helping help kids develop fitness and sports skills
When: Corporate headquarters opened in 2006, and franchising began in 2009
How: Camhi founded FitLinks for adults in the early 2000s, and his wife Jyl is a former Microsoft employee. Together, they recognized a need for a kids fitness space that built on their already-established and popular gym model. The Camhis decided to offer a variety of techniques and interactive games to develop skill sets for different age groups.
"It’s significant to be able to be flexible with the brand throughout the day," Camhi said. "We also have proprietary games that are interactive."
Where: Stamford, Conn.
In his own words: "This is one of the fastest-growing segments of the industry due to the youth obesity crisis and cutbacks on fitness programs in school."
