Scott Walker: Get Government Out of Economy’s Way

In an interview with FOX Business Network’s Stuart Varney, Republican presidential candidate Scott Walker discussed the economy, China’s state visit and border security.

He blamed lack of economic growth on President Obama and Washington D.C.

“The real issue is about growth, how do we grow the economy? Over the last year or so we’ve seen in particular 6 of the top 10 wealthiest counties in America, you know where they were this past year? They were in Washington D.C.  That’s because under people like President Obama and Hillary Clinton they think you grow the economy by growing Wall Street, Washington and K Street. I think we grow it by growing the economy out in cities towns and villages across this country. The best thing we can do is get the government out of the way,” he said.

Walker said the U.S. should cancel China’s state visit.

“With the cyber-attacks against our government, putting millions of people’s personal information at risk, looking at what’s happened over the years, particularly this year with the advances into international waters and the creation of new islands in the South China Sea. If there is ever a time we are going to push back, isn’t it now? I mean what more do they have to do before we say 'no a state visit is not appropriate,'” he said.

Governor Walker also said securing the U.S. northern border is an issue that needs to be addressed.

“I pointed out that a voter came up to me at one of our recent meetings and I believe it was someone who actually retired in law enforcement and expressed concern that there wasn’t enough staff in the federal government to work with local law enforcement along the northern border counties, and I said that’s a legitimate issue that should be addressed. I never talked about building a wall in the north," he said.
