Primus Promotes Company Veteran Andrew Day to CEO

Primus Telecommunications (NASDAQ:PTGI) on Monday promoted Andrew Day to chief executive officer, replacing Peter Aquino who will continue to serve as executive chairman.

The switch, effective Jan. 1, comes as the McLean, Va.-based telecom services provider hones in on its North American operations, having sold off its Australian operations in April.

A member of the company since 1999, Day, 47, has held a variety of roles at Primus, including chief operating officer and CEO of its Canadian business group. He most recently served as the company’s North America CEO.

“After the sale of Primus Australia, the new PTGI is a North American-centric opportunity and Andy is highly qualified to manage the daily operations of our various business segments,” Aquino said in a statement.

Aquino, meanwhile, said he will continue to lead Primus’s corporate strategy and initiatives and will assist Day in reaching the company’s 2013 financial and operating goals.
