Netflix Scores "The West Wing," Others in Warner Bros. Licensing Deal

Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) flexed its muscles on Monday when it announced a new licensing agreement with Warner Bros. that includes a handful of popular and serialized dramas and thrillers.

The move comes days after rival Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) scored a major deal with A&E.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Los Gatos, Calif.-based Netflix said popular shows including NBC drama “Revolution,” USA Network’s “Political Animals” and ABC’s supernatural thriller “666 Park Avenue,” will be added to its streaming portfolio.

The deal also covers the serialized dramas “Fringe” and “The West Wing,” Netflix said.

Netflix Shares Rally on Warner Bros. Deal

“This unprecedented agreement brings to Netflix members earlier and more exclusively than ever before complete previous seasons of some of the most prominent and successful shows on network and cable television," said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer.

The agreement currently covers a slate of eight Warner Bros. shows as well as potential future shows. Shares of Netflix climbed nearly 5.5% to $101.28 Monday morning.

Amazon’s deal announced last week includes a set of shows from the History channel and Lifetime that include popular realties Pawn Stars, Storage Wars and Dance Moms. Amazon's shares ticked up about 3.3% to a 52-week high of $269.30 on Monday afternoon.
