They Work Hard For the Money The music industry may have suffered from the economic downturn, but some artists were still able to rake in plenty of money through album sales and tours. Here are the top money makers of 2011, according to Billboard.com (Reuters)

Lady Gaga This year Lady Gaga dominated the charts and the music industry. Between catchy hook lines and one-of-a-kind outfits, this New York City native brought home a hefty paycheck. She earned more than $23.8 million from her tour and more than $5.7 in royalties from album sales, according to Billboard.com. Earnings: $30,556,342 (Reuters)

Bon Jovi After kicking off a massive tour to celebrate a 30-year career and multiple versions of the band’s 'Greatest Hit's' collection (that sold more than 2 million digital tracks), Bon Jovi propelled themselves into multiple earnings categories. Their 2009 album 'The Circle' tour grossed $85 million, topping any other tour for the year. Earnings: $30,441,776 (Reuters)

Roger Waters The former band member of Pink Floyd’s tour of 'The Wall' grossed $71.1 million in the U.S. and resurrected additional sales of classic titles from the bands catalogue. Earnings: $24,489,675 (AP)

Dave Matthews Band DMB's 2010 tour was one of the year’s biggest, grossing $70 million. It also sold more than 230,000 albums last year. Earnings: $23,942,353

Justin Bieber Teen pop sensation: check. Tour headliner: check. Multi-millionaire: double check. What more can a 17-year old ask for? Justin Bieber sold 3.7 million albums in 2010 with track sales totaling 7.6 million. By the end of the year, he earned about $7.4 million in royalties and about $13.7 million from touring. Taylor Swift With the release of her third album “Speak Now” topping sales of 1 million units in its first week and becoming the biggest debut ever for a studio album by a country artist 2011 was a good year for Swift. Her total album sales of 4.4 million netted her $7.4 million in royalties in addition to publishing income. She also had one of the top concert tours in the U.S., earning her $10.4 million. Michael Buble This Canadian singer generated total album sales of nearly 1.7 million along with digital track sales of 3 million in 2010. He also netted about $16.6 million on his worldwide arena tour. Earnings: $19,813,232 (Reuters)

Eagles The release of their 2007 album—which was the first collection of recordings since 1979-- put the band back on the map. The group made nearly $52 million on its U.S. tour and sold 371,000 albums. Its classic hits also enabled them to sell 1.2 million digital tracks. Earnings: $18,304,214

The Black Eyed Peas They might have had a feeling that 2010 was going to be a busy year for them. The Black Eyed Peas with five top 10 singles, three Grammy awards and a worldwide tour that grossed $34.8 million in the U.S. Earnings: $16,823,576 (Reuters)

Paul McCartney Paul McCartney earned about $12.9 million from a monster international tour that grossed $38.3 in the U.S. After leaving EMI, he moved his catalogue and solo career to Concord where he released a re-mastered version of Wings' 'Band on the Run.'
