Athletes are no longer letting just their performance speak volumes. Many are becoming more vocal off the field and court and tweeting whatever’s on their mind. Here are the most followed athletes on Twitter, according to Yahoo Sports.   (Reuters)

Shaquille O’Neil, @The_Real_Shaq   The 15-time NBA all-star has nearly as many Twitter followers as he does nicknames. Basketball’s oldest current player has more than 3.56 million followers.

Kaka, @kaka   The Real Madrid midfielder is arguably soccer’s most popular player at the moment; his 2.93 million followers would agree.

Serena Williams, @serenawilliams   The 13-time Grand-Slam winner is the highest-ranking female on the list with more than 1.93 million followers.

Crisitano Ronaldo @cristiano   Another member of Real Madrid, this Portuguese winger has more than 1.91 million followers.

Dwight Howard @DwightHoward   The reigning Defensive Player of the Year in the NBA may be more popular than Superman himself. Howard has more than 1.87 million followers. (Reuters)

Paul Pierce, @paulpierce34   The Boston Celtic forward makes the list with 1.74 million Bean Town fanatics following his every Tweet.

Chad Ochocinco, @ochocinco   Whether he is dancing with the stars or touting his clothing line, people can’t seem to get enough of  the Cincinnati Bengel’s receiver has more than 1.74 million fans.

Reggie Bush, @reggie_bush   The USC standout and Saints running back may have given back his Heisman Trophy but it hasn’t stopped 1.55 million people from checking in to see what the football star is up to.
