MetroPCS, Samsung Partner to Bring Live TV to Smartphones

MetroPCS (NYSE:PCS) says it is partnering with Mobile Content Venture and Samsung to enable customers to watch live, local broadcast television on their mobile phones starting later this year.

The company will be the first wireless service provider to offer Mobile Content Venture’s Dyle Mobile TV to consumers on devices that are pre-loaded with the Dyle application.

Samsung Mobile will provide the first smartphone with Dyle on a device operated on Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android system.

The Dyle technology will broadcast television from 15 major broadcast groups including Pearl, Gannett Broadcasting, FOX, Ion Television, Telemundo and NBC so that customers can watch live TV, including local and national news, sports and entertainment programming from their devices via a broadcast television signal.

The companies are expected to demonstrate Dyle at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and the first Dyle-friendly Samsung smartphones are slated to be released later this year.
