Kodak Mulls Sale of Digital Patents
Photography company Eastman Kodak (NYSE:EK) is considering selling its 1,100 U.S. patents for digital imaging in an effort to profit from heightened demand for intellectual property.
Representing 10% of its total U.S. patent portfolio, Kodak said on Wednesday the patents relate to capturing, processing, storing, organizing, editing and sharing digital images.
Given recent trends in the marketplace for intellectual property, we believe the time is right to explore smart, opportunistic alternatives for our digital imaging patent portfolios, said Laura Quatela, Kodaks general counsel.
The offer also includes image monetization applications that Kodak says are fundamental to the digital imaging industry.
