Small Business Spotlight: Yorkie Splash & Shine

Who: Sarah Henery, @yorkiesplash

What: Vegan, organic shampoo for Yorkie dogs

When: 2009

Where: Lebanon, MO

How: Henery’s parents have been breeding yorkie dogs for years, and she said they had always spent tons of money on haircare for the dogs. None of the products gave her the results she wanted, so Henery took it upon herself to find her own formula.

“It slowly snowballed into a Website, and now its what I do full-time,” she said. “My dad told me I was crazy, but I had only spent about $150 on supplies and figured I would try it out.”

Her product is vegan and organic, and since 2010, Henery estimates she has sold more than 4,000 bottles. The production originally took place in her kitchen, then in her parent’s basement, and today has moved to a facility next to their house where the three of them make, bottle and ship out the products.

Quote from the owner: “We hope to sell in retail stores,” she said. “All of our marketing is basically word-of-mouth, and the way we have it set up now I don’t think my dad can bottle enough to upgrade!”
