Kanye West knows what it means to be American: Condoleezza Rice

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said musician Kanye West has the right to express his views about President Donald Trump.

“Not all of us have to think politically the same way,” she told FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo on “Mornings with Maria” on Wednesday.

Following a flurry of pro-Trump tweets, West, also a fashion designer, made controversial comments about slavery to TMZ.

Conservative activist Candace Owens also criticized former President Barack Obama for failing to apologize to West over previous issues.

West has garnered support from some A-list celebrities while others have condemned his public affection for Trump.

Rice said being American is about having the ability to freely speak your mind.

“I think we need to recognize that in some ways the height of prejudice is to look at somebody and think you know what they think because of the color of their skin,” Rice said. “I hope we get to the point that people get to express their views and you can agree with them or disagree.”
