Dear Shaw, I'm a little surprised because all old "junk" cars have some value on the salvage market. Regardless, here are some options that should net you some cash for your junk car.

If your car is still in good running condition, you might be able to sell it and make a little cash by simply putting a "for sale" sign in it and parking it on a busy street or by placing a local ad. If that sounds like too much trouble, ask a local independent mechanic -- ideally the one you've used for service -- if he knows of anyone who really needs some cheap transportation. If you do sell it, be sure to note in writing that you are selling the car as is, with no guarantees or warranties.

Another option is to sell your car to a junkyard or service that buys junk cars. You can do this whether your car is running or not. There are many companies that will pick up your car from your location and give you cash for it on the spot or donate the money to a charity.
