Honda Recalls More Than 200K Vehicles

Honda Motor Co. (NYSE:HMC) announced a recall of 204,169 vehicles for a possible issue with their brake-shift interlock mechanisms, which keep the driver from shifting out of the park position without applying the brakes.

The Japanese automaker said the system may not work properly when the temperature is below freezing. The mechanism may allow drivers to shift the lever without using the brake pedal, increasing the risk of a roll-away accident.

The recall includes CR-V sport utility vehicles and Odyssey minivans from model years 2012 and 2013, as well as Acura RDX SUVs from model year 2013.

Honda said in a statement that no customer complaints, crashes or injuries were reported in relation to the issue, which was discovered during an internal investigation.

Shares of Honda were up nearly 1% at $39.47 Friday afternoon.
