Small business owners have struggled with the tough economy in 2011 and some owners opened their doors for the first time in this climate. But that doesn’t stop them from being thankful this holiday season for making it through their first year in these trying times. From guitar makers to app entrepreneurs, 2011 was a time for growth and gratitude for these business owners. Here’s what they are the most thankful for this year.
Matthew Eichen, founder of Musicvox, Cherry Hill, NJ
I am thankful for Facebook and direct to consumer online sales in 2011. [This technology gives us] the ability to market directly to our niche customers and get the attention of celebrity artists, major guitar magazines and guitarists worldwide to spread our unique and innovative designs.
Tawheed Kader, ToutApp CEO
The biggest thing we are thankful for are our customers. As a new business, it is really hard to start something out of nothing and get to earning revenues and building a product that people care about. Our group of customers is passionate about [our product] and that is the biggest thing to be thankful for, especially when you’re in business.
Stephi Maron, Blushington founder and CEO
This year I am thankful to have my own business where I can provide jobs and a service that makes women feel good about themselves.
Jesse Maddox, TripLingo CEO
I'm thankful for a "weapons-grade" team and the opportunity we have to work together on something that solves a real problem and also something we're passionate about.
Jon Shook, owner/chef of Son of A Gun Restaurant and Animal in Los Angeles
I am thankful for everyone that works for our company. Without them, all of this would not be possible. (Casey Dunn)
Donna Wilcox, owner of A Medical Spa at Rizzieri in Marlton, N.J. (AMedicalSpa.com)
I am thankful that esthetic medicine and salon and spas are the new hybrid that enables women of a certain age to stay younger looking. I am also thrilled that as the mother of five, and a 54-year-old grandmother, I am able to use my skills and knowledge as a physician to help women look and feel their best.
Jeff Trigger, managing partner of Congress, Second Bar + Kitchen and Bar Congress in Austin
I'm thankful that I work with a group of people who are dedicated to making our business successful. I'm thankful for all the support we've received from the community, which makes our business stronger every day. I'm also thankful for the local and national recognition we've received for all three of our establishments. (Casey Dunn)
