China Construction Bank First-Quarter Profit Rises 3%

China Construction Bank Corp. (0939.HK) on Thursday said its net profit in the first quarter this year rose 3.03% to 70.01 billion yuan ($10.2 billion) from a year earlier, buoyed by fee and commission income.

Net interest income at China's second-largest commercial lender by assets fell by 0.9% to 106.9 billion yuan, while net fee and commission income rose 1% to 38.8 billion yuan in the first quarter, the bank said.

The bank also reported 184.51 billion yuan of nonperforming loans at the end of the quarter, up from 178.69 billion yuan three months earlier. The bank's bad-loan ratio was unchanged from 1.52% at the end of last year.
