Small Business Spotlight: Bizzy Fizz Bath Treats
Who: Laura Bisel, @BizzyFizz
What: Handmade bath products
When: 2004
Where: Michigan
How: Laura Bisel’s son, Skylar, came up with the business idea when he was six years old. After receiving bath fizzies as a Christmas gift, Skylar wanted to make his own at home. Skylar and his mom spent a year trying to perfect the recipe for the bath soaps. Laura and Skylar launched Bizzy Fizz Bath Treats after receiving positive feedback from those who were given the soaps as gifts.
Laura said her son came up with the name and most of the business’ creations, while she handles marketing and manufacturing. Today, Bizzy Fizz has grown to sell its products around the U.S., and just opened a local shop, Artisan Market, in partnership with other Michigan-based artisans. Bizzy Fizz will also be featured in the Golden Globes’ gift lounge in January.
“My 14-year-old is very proud of it. He is doing a magnificent job with his first business. It’s something I’m proud of as a mom,” Laura Bisel said.
Quote from the owner: “Bath fizzies are usually just one basic recipe. With our products, we have specific recipes for each one. Some have powdered milk or oatmeal. For kids, we put small toys in some fizzies, and some have rose pedals for adults. Each one is different than the next.”
