Brazil Oct. Retail Sales -0.9% on Month; +2.5% on Year

Retail sales in Brazil declined in October from the previous month as shoppers bought less clothes and other personal items.

Sales slipped 0.9% versus September, and rose 2.5% compared with October of 2016, the country's statistics agency said Wednesday.

Sales of clothing and shoes fell 2.7% in October from September, and sales of other items for personal and household use dropped 3.5% in the same period.

Sales of furniture and household appliances jumped 10.1% in October from a year earlier.
