Anti-censorship group: Chinese authorities are behind cyberattacks on US sites

A group that helps Internet users in China see blocked websites says Chinese authorities are behind cyberattacks against the group's site and a U.S.-based web resource for programmers that hosts some of the group's data.

The anti-censorship group Greatfire.org said in a statement Monday that their analysis shows Chinese authorities carried out denial-of-service attacks that have intermittently shut down San Francisco-based Github over the past week. Greatfire.org said it has mirrored some of its content on Github repositories, and that the data was the target of the attacks.

Greatfire.org said the attacks are the first China has launched against foreign sites.

The Cyberspace Administration of China didn't respond to requests for comment Tuesday.
