Acer Hires New CFO

Taiwanese personal computer maker Acer Inc. (2353.TW) said Wednesday that Chief Financial Officer Eva Ho is resigning and that the company will tap a satellite television executive for her replacement.

The new CFO, Nancy Hu, was formerly the vice chairwoman and president of Videoland Inc. Taiwan, and will begin at Acer on May 1, the company said.

It's the latest executive change at the unprofitable PC maker, which has struggled to adapt to the shift in consumer preferences toward mobile devices. Acer's Chief Executive J.T. Wang and President Jim Wong both resigned in November following a record quarterly loss. The company's longtime acting spokesman Henry Wang was detained by police last month on suspicion of insider trading, pending an ongoing investigation.

Ms. Ho resigned as "part of her career planning," Acer said, adding that it was a personal decision.

As with her predecessor, Ms. Hu will become Acer's official spokeswoman when she takes on the CFO role, the company said.

Ms. Hu holds an MBA from Florida International University and an M.Sc. in computer science from Barry University in Florida. She is a certified public accountant in the U.S. and Hong Kong, Acer said.

Besides her role at Videoland, Taiwan's main supplier of satellite channels, Ms. Hu has previously served as CEO of Asia Television Ltd. Hong Kong, group CEO of Gold Typhoon Music Group, and independent director of Gigamedia Ltd.
