Accenture, Oracle Partner in the Cloud

Consulting giant Accenture PLC (ACN) has teamed up with Oracle Corp. (ORCL) to offer cloud-based solutions for the public, financial and hospitality sectors.

The collaboration will help speed cloud migration by streamlining the buying process for Accenture services on Oracle's cloud technology, the two companies said in a release.

Customers will be able to use accelerators, such as data migration and training tools, and industry-specific extensions with Oracle's software-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service offerings, they said.

Oracle built its empire by selling databases and other software essentials to behind-the-scenes operations at many big companies. Now it is trying to break out of a long stretch of meek revenue growth with newer technologies, including a different style of database, as well as human-resources and corporate-marketing software refashioned for the Web and sold as a subscription.

Revenue from a collection of these newer "cloud" software offerings rose 29% in Oracle's latest quarter ended in February.
