Today's Question: How do you attract people to apply to your open jobs?

The answers below are provided by members of FounderSociety, an invitation-only organization comprised of ambitious startup founders and business owners.

1. Be Part of Something Bigger

We're solving a huge problem for people, and we've already built an amazing experience that people love. The people who work with our company truly embrace the culture of openness, empowerment, and transparency. The chance to be part of something bigger than yourself is what attracts people to GiftStarter.com.

2. Convey a Sense of Purpose

Tech jobs are in high demand, and yet there have been a lot of examples of companies struggling to maintain their rosters. High turnover is usually the result of employees feeling underutilized or simply bored by their jobs. The best way to attract and retain quality candidates is to post a job with purpose, rather than a series of tasks. Self-starters only.

3. Improve Your Search Results

Assume that when a potential candidate sees your job listing, they will Google your company. Make sure that the candidate finds helpful information preferably from an outside source and that the culture of your company is highlighted in top search results. If candidates find nothing but your social media presence after Googling your company, they'll likely grow concerned.

4. Advertise Competitive Benefits

Everyone wants the same benefits from their employers: flexibility, a great environment, a competitive salary, and a new experience. I advertise slightly higher rates than competing job posts, and I stress the importance of my benefits. I also mention that I offer the startup atmosphere which many people prefer to the corporate environment and emphasize the close relationships people have with one another at this company.

5. Take Advantage of Social Media

Finding top talent is key to growing our social media agency. We use the recruiting software Jazz, which places our open positions on premium job boards and streamlines the entire recruiting process. We want candidates to know what it's like to work at Socialfly, so we always post behind-the-scenes photos and videos of what agency life is like on Instagram and Snapchat.

6. Create a Meaningful Culture

People generally don't like going to work, especially if they work for somebody else. If you can create a fun and meaningful company culture, then work isn't as bad. I believe most people, myself included, would rather work at a place where you have fun and create something meaningful, even if it means making less money or working more hours. Having a company culture that embraces these values will attract hard workers who like to have fun.
