Outdated state unemployment insurance systems across the U.S. could take months to adopt a Republican proposal that would cap benefits at a certain percentage of worker's former salary. 

If President Trump signed legislation by the beginning of August, that could mean Americans would start to see the money at least by the end of the month -- if not earlier.

Republicans and the White House proposed reducing the $600 payment to $200 until states can adopt a new approach that would cap the aid at 70 percent of the income workers received before they lost their jobs.

If you qualified for a check in the first round, you are likely up for a second payment.

The American Association of Port Authorities is asking Congress to proved $1.5 billion for ports because of lost revenue.

The proposal will come as part of the GOP's broader $1 trillion stimulus package aimed at helping workers and businesses still reeling from the coronavirus pandemic.

The additional $600 benefit ends this week, with the unemployed only having access to state benefits that are often at poverty-income levels.

Next week's highly  anticipated hearing on Capitol Hill that was to bring together the CEOs of major technology companies has been officially postponed.

The bill combines policies that worked well in the CARES Act with new proposals.
