U.S. Job Openings Rise by Most in 5 Months

U.S. job openings rose in May by the most in five months, a hopeful sign for a labor market buffeted by a sharp slowdown in hiring.

Job openings - a measure of labor demand - rose 195,000 to 3.642 million, the Labor Department said on Tuesday in its monthly Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey.

The increase in openings in May was broad based, with manufacturing vacancies rising 51,000 to 310,000.
