Dow Logs Sixth Straight Record Close

The Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded its sixth straight record close Tuesday, even as the two other main benchmarks finished lower following a series of weak earnings reports. The Dow industrials gained 25.98 points, or 0.1%, to 18,559.01, finishing higher for the eighth straight day -- its longest winning streak in more than three years, and its longest stretch of consecutive record closes in about two-and-a-half years. McDonald's Corp. and Johnson & Johnson were the best performers on the blue-chip gauge. The S&P 500 shed 3.11 points, or 0.1%%, to 2,163.78, with energy and materials shares leading the index lower. The Nasdaq Composite slipped 19.41 points, or 0.4%, to 5,036.37.
