A 5.2-magnitude Earthquake Hits Outside Of San Diego

An 5.2 magnitude earthquake hit just outside of Borrego Springs, Calif. early Friday morning, which is about 61 miles northeast of San Diego, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. That was followed by several aftershocks in the area, ranging from magnitudes of 2.6 to 3.5. There were no initial reports of injury, according to a report in the San Diego Union-Tribune. Nearly 3,000 people said they felt the quake, the USGS said. To put the 5.2 quake in perspective, the 6.9-magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake in October 1989, outside of San Francisco, was about 50 times bigger; and the 5.2 quake was 50 times bigger than the 3.5-magnitude quake that hit Borrego Springs about 30 minutes later.
