Apple Is Serious About TV, Held Talks With Time Warner: FT

Apple Inc. in a meeting late last year with Time Warner Inc. broached the subject of buying the media company. The Financial Times reported that Apple executive Eddy Cue sat down with Time Warner, which owns HBO, CNN and Warner Bros, to discuss the iPhone maker's interest in TV content. The two companies have done business together over the years, and last year HBO launched the stand-alone streaming app HBO Now with an exclusive window on Apple TV. Talks of a sale to Apple reportedly did not make it past the preliminary stage but suggest that Apple has a strong interest in competing in the TV business. Shares of Time Warner are up nearly 2% since the report.
