Wearable Device Sales Soar, Led By Fitbit

Fourth-quarter wearable device sales soared 126.9% over year-earlier levels, with Fitbit leading the way, the International Data Corporation said Tuesday. Vendors shipped 28.4 million units during the quarter and 78.1 million for the year. Calling Fitbit the "undisputed worldwide leader of wearable devices," IDC said the company had a fourth-quarter market share of 29.5% due to growth in corporate wellness and its variety of devices. Apple had the second highest market share, at 15%. though IDC noted that volume only grew slightly from the previous quarter. Xiaomi, Samsung and Garmin were third, fourth and fifth in market share.
