Early gains for US stocks after some solid company earnings; Electronic Arts, LendingClub rise

Stronger earnings from several U.S. companies are sending stock prices higher in early trading.

Video game maker Electronic arts rose 6 percent and LendingClub rose 5 percent early Wednesday after reporting results that beat analysts' expectations.

Energy companies rose far more than the rest of the market as the price of crude oil continued its climb above $60 a barrel.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose two points, or 0.1 percent, to 2,092 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 34 points, or 0.2 percent, to 17,960. The Nasdaq composite gained six points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,946.

The price of oil rose $1.42 to $61.82 a barrel.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.20 percent.
