It was only two years ago that Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) chief content officer Ted Sarandos told GQ, "Our goal is to become HBO faster than HBO can become us." With the impending launch of HBO Now, and Netflix confirming its commitment to original programming, the two have never looked more similar. But HBO is still well ahead of Netflix when it comes to global scale, profits, and the quality of its original programming. Here is how Netflix plans to best HBO.
