Hedge fund founder, 70-year-old Thomas Gilbert, fatally shot in head in Manhattan apartment

A 70-year-old hedge fund founder has been found shot dead inside his Manhattan apartment.

Police say Thomas Gilbert was shot in the head at his Beekman Place residence on the East Side. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Monday they were questioning his 30-year-old son, Thomas Gilbert, Jr. No charges have been filed.

Police say a handgun was found near the body.

The elder Gilbert founded Wainscott Capital Partners Fund in 2011. The fund has $200 million in assets and focuses on the biotech and health care industries. Gilbert previously co-founded Syzygy Therapeutics, a biotech asset acquisition fund.

Beekman Place is a tony enclave just north of the United Nations.
