Construction set to start on Finger Lakes casino; project 1 of 3 chosen for upstate towns

The developer behind one the three new casino locations chosen for upstate New York isn't wasting any time getting started with construction.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (http://bit.ly/1AlM5qs ) that the head of Rochester-based Wilmorite says digging for the $425 million casino in the Seneca County town of Tyre is set to begin Friday. Thomas Wilmot says construction equipment began arriving on site Thursday.

Wilmorite's Lago Resort & Casino Hotel was one of three Las Vegas-style casino projects chosen Wednesday by the state Gaming Facility Location Board. The other two will be built in the Catskills in Sullivan County and in the city of Schenectady.

The Lago casino will be built near the northern end of Cayuga Lake on an 85-acre site along Route 414 near the Thruway's Exit 41, about midway between Rochester and Syracuse.
