Defense company General Dynamics secures $5.8 billion contract from British army

General Dynamics has landed a $5.76 billion contract to make armored vehicles for Britain.

The aerospace and defense company will deliver 589 Scout Specialist Vehicles between 2017 and 2024, and it will also make available affiliated support and training.

The contract will help keep up to 1,300 jobs in the United Kingdom, the company said Wednesday. About 300 of those jobs will be at the General Dynamics facility in Oakdale, South Wales.

General Dynamics Corp. is headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia.
