Xerox files notice of 121 layoffs at western New York manufacturing plant, outsourcing work

Xerox Corp. plans to lay off 121 people at its Webster plant in western New York.

A notice filed with the state Labor Department this week says the layoffs will take effect Nov. 17.

A statement from Norwalk, Connecticut-based Xerox says the affected employees work for the site and facilities services operations providing maintenance and cleaning for the Webster plant.

The work will be contracted out to the commercial firm, JLL, which Xerox says may hire laid-off Xerox workers who apply there.

Xerox says the switch is part of the company's strategy of exiting "non-core activities."

More than 6,000 of Xerox's 140,000 employees work in western New York.
