Austin Beutner is appointed new publisher, CEO of Los Angeles Times Media Group

Austin Beutner (BYOOT'-ner) is the new publisher and CEO of the Los Angeles Times Media Group.

The 54-year-old entrepreneur, philanthropist and public servant takes over for Eddy W. Hartenstein, who recently became non-executive chairman of the Tribune Publishing Board. Beutner reports to Tribune Publishing Company's CEO Jack Griffin.

Beutner was co-founder, president and co-CEO of investment banking firm Evercore Partners. He worked for the U.S. government, leading an American effort to help Russia transition to a market economy after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Four years ago, Beutner became Los Angeles' first jobs czar and deputy mayor. He is also board chairman of CalArts, The Broad Stage and the Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation.

Hartenstein says Beutner loves journalism and Southern California, has an impressive record of public service and a "can-do spirit."
