Colorado's consumer spending rebounding after Great Recession

A new report from the federal government shows consumer spending in Colorado has increased since the Great Recession ended in 2009.

The report released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Commerce shows Colorado's per-capita spending was $37,564 in 2012, the latest year for which figures are available. Colorado's per-capita spending was $34,142 in 2009. That means consumer spending grew by 10 percent during those years, slightly lower than the 10.7 national average for that time.

However, the state's per-capita spending was still higher than the 2012 national average of $35,498. The figures aren't adjusted for inflation.

The government report for the first time shows consumer spending on a state-by-state basis from 1997 through 2012.

Colorado's per-capita spending ranks 17th in the nation.
