Shares of energy producers were flat as oil futures paused around the $50 a barrel level, digesting dramatic third-quarter gains of more than 12%. In September, small cap stocks had their biggest gains relative to large-cap stocks since the election, with small-cap energy stocks leading the way, said analysts at brokerage Barclays, in a research note.
