Banks, lenders and other financial companies fell as lackluster consumer inflation data did little to improve the odds of an interest-rate increase in December. The consumer-price index rose 0.1% in July--an improvement over a similar decline for the wholesale measure--but the rate of inflation remains well below the Federal Reserve's target on an annual basis.
