Brazil's Industrial Production Rises 0.6% in April vs March

BRASÍLIA--Brazil's industrial output rose 0.6% in April from the prior month, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, or IBGE, said Friday.

When compared with a year earlier, April industrial output was down 4.5%, the deepest drop since October.

The result comes a day after IBGE said gross domestic product, a broader measure of economic growth, expanded 1% in the first quarter over the fourth quarter of 2016, the first quarterly expansion in two years.

A weekly survey of economists by the central bank released Monday forecast 0.49% GDP growth for 2017.
