Consumer-Company Shares Up After Jobs Report - Consumer Roundup

Shares of retailers and other consumer-services companies rose after strong jobs data suggested spending would soon rise. As part of its effort to defend its once-dominant position in household goods from Amazon.com, Walmart has applied for a patent on sensors that would track how much milk or laundry detergent was left in a sold package, The Wall Street Journal reported.
