Ask Alexa to Bring You Booze Via Prime Now

With features like 1-click ordering, Amazon already makes it really easy to buy things. Now it's about to get even easier for those with an Alexa-enabled device and Prime subscription.

Echo devices now support Alexa-enabled voice shopping via Prime Now, Amazon's two-hour delivery service. The company said tens of thousands of "daily essentials" like diapers, dish soap, over-the-counter medicine — even merlot — are available simply asking Alexa to order from Prime Now.

Say you're sick in bed and nobody's around to fetch you medicine. Just say, "Alexa, order Nyquil from Prime Now," and a bottle will appear at your door in just a few hours.

Or, say you're partying with your friends and you run out of booze, but everyone's too tipsy to drive. In Seattle, you can use Alexa to voice order alcohol from Prime Now with free two-hour delivery, and in Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio, you can use the feature to order beer and wine. Of course, you'll need to be at least 21 to order, and show your ID upon delivery.

"Whether customers are in the middle of a game night with friends and family, have their hands full with a baby or are too sick to get out of bed, Alexa makes it easy to get what they need right away through Prime Now without taking out a phone or logging into a computer," Amazon wrote in its news release.

This new feature works via Alexa-enabled devices like the Echo, Echo Dot, Amazon Tap, Fire Tablet, and Fire TV in more than 30 Prime Now eligible cities; click here to check if it's available in your area. You'll also need to be a Prime member and have a 1-click ordering enabled.

When you ask Alexa for something from Prime Now, the voice-enabled digital assistant will recommend a product within the Prime Now catalog and once confirmed add it to your order. You can order multiple items at once, and Alexa can make suggestions based on the other items in your order (it might recommend tissues and soup, for instance, if you order Nyquil). Once you reach the minimum order amount (which varies by delivery area), Alexa will automatically choose the next available two-hour delivery slot. If you have buyer's remorse, you can cancel within eight seconds by saying "Alexa, cancel my order."

Those who use Prime Now Alexa ordering before April 30 will get a $5 promo code to use on future Prime Now orders.
