By and large, stress is a net negative force in our lives. According to the aptly named American Institute of Stress, it can cause everything from depression and anxiety to heart attacks and strokes, with a range of grisly afflictions in between.

But that doesn't mean stress is always bad. Sometimes, it can actually help us out.
