Happy employees are much more productive than their unhappy counterparts. And what's one thing that makes employees happy? Advancement opportunities at work.

According to a new infographic from social recruiting suite RolePoint, 44 percent of employees say career advancement opportunities are very important – but 45 percent of employees are unhappy with the advancement opportunities their employers offer them.

If you want to lower turnover and boost engagement, you'd do well to start by making sure your employees have access to internal advancement opportunities. As a bonus, you'll also save yourself some time and money: Internal hires tend to cost less than external hires, and they tend to get up to speed in their new roles more quickly.
