Apple Inc took the wraps off its long-awaited iPad mini tablet device on Tuesday, as well as an upgraded fourth-generation version of the original iPad.

Apple said at a California press conference that the new smaller iPad has a 7.9 inch screen as opposed to the 9.7 inch screen on the larger device. The company said it was approximately the thickness of a pencil and would offer both WiFi and cellular data connections.

Earlier at the same event, the company also revealed upgrades to its iMac and Mac mini desktop computer lines and MacBook Pro laptop platform.
