Netflix in Deal to Provide CW Programming

Video rental provider Netflix Inc. has reached a deal to digitally stream previous season episodes of The CW network programs through the 2014-15 TV season, Netflix and CW co-owners Time Warner Inc. and CBS Corp. said Thursday.

The agreement covers more than 700 hours of The CW's young-skewing dramas as well as future programs. These rights extend for four years after each series, current or future, ends its broadcast run on the network.

Netflix is working to keep adding content to its service in the wake of three months of negative publicity surrounding a price increase and a short-lived plan to separate and rename its DVD business.

For Time Warner and CBS, the pact represents the latest move by programming providers to offer consumers the convenience they want in a digital offering without cannibalizing the most lucrative current season programming.
