Government Shutdown Would Halt Most Economic Data

Most U.S. economic data would not be released during a government shutdown if one occurred, a U.S. official said on Thursday.

No data from the Commerce Department or from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which handles the closely watched monthly employment report, would be released, the official said.

Analysts expect the Federal Reserve, which is not subject to annual government funding allocations, would continue releasing its data, including monthly numbers on industrial production and weekly figures on the U.S. money supply.
