Facebook Eyes Hosting Deals With News Sites: NYT

Facebook Inc. is in talks with at least six media companies about hosting their content directly on the social-media network's website, The New York Times reported Tuesday, citing sources. The New York Times, BuzzFeed and National Geographic are expected to be among the media partners, with the new plan seen making a trial run run in the coming months. One source said The Times and Facebook are close to making a firmer arrangement. To sweeten any deal, Facebook has talked about the different ways that media sites can make money from advertising that would accompany any content. It has also spoken to those companies about how it can speed up delivery of their articles on Facebook. The Huffington Post and Quartz were also approached, but declined to comment to the New York Times. Representatives for BuzzFeed and The Times declined to comment, nor did National Geographic immediately respond, the report said.
